Oakland Golf Club

Oakland Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf course at 433 N Bradley Ln in Oakland, playing 6,395 yards over rolling mountain terrain a few minutes from Deep Creek Lake. With leagues, lessons and a clubhouse grill, it works for beginners, juniors and low handicappers alike, and for visitors looking for a round away from the resort courses.

A Course Built by the WPA

The club dates to 1937, when more than 100 Oakland residents petitioned the mayor and town council for a golf course on the town's "Water Farm." The federal Works Progress Administration funded most of the work, and 75 WPA workers built the original nine holes, which opened that October. The first clubhouse was the former water superintendent's residence, and the course was run as a partnership between the town and an incorporated golf club. Today the grounds also protect open space, a bird sanctuary and the town watershed.

Playing and Practicing

• A driving range and practice putting green
• Private lessons and a kids camp, with a Director of Golf on staff
• Leagues for men, women and retirees, including a ladies' nine-hole scramble, and new members are welcome through the season
• Group outings for corporate and charity events, from 16 golfers to groups of more than 100

The club also hosts the Western Maryland Amateur Tournament each August, a 54-hole men's event with senior divisions that has run for more than 60 years.

The Caddyshack Bar + Grill

The clubhouse's Caddyshack Bar + Grill is a full-service grill with beverage service, an outdoor patio and a dining area that can take large groups, and it runs a wing night menu. During a round, the Patio Bar has quick breakfast and lunch items and drinks, with curbside service at the turn after the 9th hole.
