About
Oakland MRI & Diagnostics is an independent outpatient imaging center at 259 N 4th St in Oakland, on the grounds of Garrett Regional Medical Center (formerly Garrett County Memorial Hospital). It gives Garrett County patients a local place for MRI, mammography, bone density and ultrasound exams ordered by their doctor, without traveling to a larger regional hospital.
Imaging Services
The center lists these exams on its website:
- MRI and MRA
- Digital mammography with 3D tomosynthesis
- Bone density (DEXA) scans
- Ultrasound, including breast ultrasound
MRI exams run on a Siemens MAGNETOM Altea unit, which the center installed in January 2020. The practice is accredited for MRI by the American College of Radiology (ACR), an accreditation that is re-evaluated every two years. Studies are read by board-certified radiologists, and reports are faxed to the ordering physician, who can also view images and reports from their own office.
A Local Center Since 2006
Oakland MRI Center opened in January 2006 and now operates as Oakland MRI & Diagnostics. Although it sits on the hospital campus, it describes itself as a free-standing facility rather than a hospital department, which is worth knowing when you talk to your insurer.
Before You Go
Every exam needs a written order from your physician, PA or nurse practitioner, and the order can be faxed to the center ahead of time. Check with your insurance company about whether prior authorization is required; the office says it can help obtain one if it is. On the day of your appointment, bring your current insurance cards and a photo ID. Press 1 when you call to reach scheduling.
If your doctor has ordered imaging, a quick call to the center is the easiest way to get your exam on the calendar here in Oakland.
