About
Pawn Run Bar + Kitchen is a family-owned bar and kitchen at 485 Boy Scout Rd, Oakland, set back from the main roads around Deep Creek Lake. It pours craft cocktails, craft beer, wine and spirits alongside a menu of shareable small plates, and it books live music most weeks. It suits anyone looking for a relaxed evening out, whether you arrive by car, bike, snowmobile or on foot.
A Tavern Since 1958
The Tasker family built the place in 1958 and called it Tasker's Tavern, and the business says it surely held one of the earliest beer licenses on the lake. The Bowman family bought it in 1968, enlarged the building and ran it for 14 years, adding a small one-bedroom cabin to the property. In 1982 Les Bittinger took over, renamed it The Pawn Run Saloon and made it known for steak dinners; after his death his wife Jeanette ran it with Charles Rogers. The Foster family bought the property in 2006 and kept the steak-dinner tradition going before it became today's updated bar and kitchen.
What's on the Menu
The food is built for sharing, with several dishes using local goat cheese, local grass-fed beef and local forest-raised pork sausage. Menu sections include:
- Made for Sharing: smokehouse nachos, Maryland-style crab dip, honey Brussels sprouts, roasted roots and Bavarian soft pretzel sticks
- From the Farm: steak crostini, street tacos, burger sliders, turkey pot pie, a gochujang pork belly rice bowl and smoked gouda mac
- Flatbreads: combinations such as fig and wild mushroom, sage sausage and pumpkin, and honey roasted grape with prosciutto
- Something Sweet: blackberry cheesecake, chocolate torte and key lime pie
The menu shifts with the seasons, so check the website before you go if you have a dish in mind.
Live Music and Events
Pawn Run hosts local and regional performers on a regular schedule, posted on its Live Shows page, and musicians can ask to play through the booking form on the website. Gift cards are sold online, which makes an easy present for anyone who lives near or visits the lake.
Look up the current lineup before you head over and plan your night around a set.
