About
Performing Arts Center at Garrett College is the arts and events venue on the Garrett College campus at 687 Mosser Road in McHenry. It brings musicals, plays, concerts, workshops and community events to Garrett County, and its rooms can be booked for private gatherings and business outings.
Inside the Building
The center opened in 2023 as a 15,800-square-foot addition joined to the college's former gymnasium, designed by DLR Group. The heart of it is a proscenium theatre of roughly 400 seats, with an orchestra pit that can be filled in for extra seating or raised to extend the stage. Around it you'll find:
- A recital hall and a 2,000-square-foot multipurpose space that can be divided into three rooms
- An art gallery and lobby
- A catering kitchen, dressing rooms and a green room
- A piano lab and classroom space
Who Uses It
Garrett College runs the center on behalf of a group of partners: the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival, Garrett County Public Schools, the Garrett County Arts Council and Garrett County Government. That mix is why the calendar ranges from touring musicals and local theatre to school performances, continuing-education workshops and county events. The design earned an AIA Potomac Valley Honor Award.
Booking an Event
The center markets itself as a business destination too, so if you're planning a conference, meeting or private celebration, the team can talk you through the theatre, recital hall and multipurpose rooms.
