Pick of the Litter Thrift Shop

Pick of the Litter Thrift Shop is a charity thrift shop in Sand Flat Plaza at 17869 Garrett Highway, Unit 4, in the Oakland area near Deep Creek Lake. Run by HART for Animals, it raises money for animal rescue in Western Maryland, so shoppers and donors both help local pets.

Supporting HART for Animals

Pick of the Litter opened in Sand Flat Plaza in April 2013 as part of HART's fundraising, and sales support the HART adoption center and its animal programs. HART for Animals is a nonprofit, formerly HART of Garrett County, whose mission is to improve the condition of animals in Western Maryland through rescue and transport, adoption, and no-cost and low-cost spay/neuter services for pets in low-income households. Its HART Center in Accident includes an adoption wing, a veterinary clinic, boarding and grooming.

Volunteering

If you'd like to help in person, HART takes volunteer sign-ups through an online form on its website, and shop volunteers get first look at new merchandise.

Stop in when you're on Garrett Highway and you might leave with a find while helping an animal find a home.
