About
Pleasant Valley Dream Rides offers horse-drawn carriage rides, winter sleigh rides and carriage tours from the Miller family's Amish dairy farm at 1689 Pleasant Valley Road, Oakland, MD 21550, about 20 minutes from Deep Creek Lake. It's a quiet, old-fashioned outing for couples, families and groups, and a source of horse-drawn carriages for weddings and special events.
Rides on an Amish Dairy Farm
The Millers' farm, Duntrussen Holstein, sits in the Pleasant Valley area south of Oakland. Horse-drawn carriage tours take you around the farm so you can see its agricultural side and learn about daily life on an Amish dairy farm, with hands-on educational experiences included. Drivers share local knowledge and lore along the way.
Winter Sleigh Rides
When snow covers the valley, draft horses pull sleighs across the farm, with blankets provided to keep you warm. Private rides for couples are available. Space is limited and reservations are required, and the farm's Facebook page is the place to check on current snow conditions.
Wedding and Event Carriages
The farm's stables house horse-drawn wedding carriages and a horse-drawn funeral hearse. The Millers travel with their carriages to weddings and special events in Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, so call to talk through dates and logistics well ahead of your event.
To get there from Oakland, take Route 219 south, turn left onto Paul Friend Road, then right onto Pleasant Valley Road; Duntrussen is the first farm on the right. Call before you go to set up your ride.
