About
Pleasant View Baptist Church is a Baptist congregation at 8931 Garrett Highway (Route 219) outside Oakland. Known locally as PVBC, it describes itself as a spiritual family learning to live life together for God's glory, and it welcomes visitors and families of all ages.
What to Expect on a Sunday
Sunday mornings begin with Sunday school for children from PreK through ninth grade, alongside adult classes led by the church's elders and deacons, followed by Sunday worship with hymns and songs, a sermon from the Bible and fellowship afterward. PVBC is an age-integrated church, so children worship with the whole congregation, and a little noise from young ones is expected and welcomed. Unstaffed nursery and parenting rooms are there if you need a break. There's no dress code, guest parking sits near the Welcome Center entrance, and volunteers at the Welcome Desk can point you in the right direction. If you can't make it in person, sermons are shared by live video and audio.
Ministries and Missions
The church runs men's, ladies' and youth ministries, plus Fellowship At The Park, an outdoor Sunday-evening gathering for worship, Bible teaching and outreach under the Community Park Pavilion in Terra Alta, West Virginia, during the warmer months. Its PV Puppets ministry has shared the message of Jesus for decades through street outreach at Oakland's Autumn Glory Festival, mission trips and a Christmas presentation. Locally, PVBC supports The James Isaac House pregnancy resource center; further afield, it has sent teams to Haiti every year since 2010 and supports pastors and church planters in South Asia through Serve India Ministries, along with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board and North American Mission Board.
Leadership
Wally Weeks serves as senior pastor and Mark Weeks as associate pastor, with a team of elders and deacons.
