About

Proctor-Kildow American Legion Post 71 is Oakland's post of the American Legion, the national veterans' organization. Its post home is at 423 Memorial Dr in Oakland, and it is a gathering point for veterans and their families from around Garrett County.

A Home for Veterans' Groups

Several groups meet at the post home. Alongside the Legion post itself, the Sons of the American Legion, the American Legion Riders and the Ladies Auxiliary all hold regular monthly meetings here, so whether you served yourself or are a family member of someone who did, there is a group you can join. The Marine Corps League's Garrett County Detachment #1234 also lists 423 Memorial Drive as its address.

Honoring Those Who Served

The post's work shows up around town. American Legion Proctor-Kildow Post 71 and VFW Post 10077 are credited on the Oakland Veterans Park memorial on South Third Street, which is dedicated "In Memory of Those Who Served."

If you're a veteran new to the area or want to get involved, a call to the post is the simplest way to find out about membership and upcoming meetings.
