Red Barn Inn is a renovated, farmhouse-style inn on a 10-acre farm at 184 N Glade Rd in Swanton, in the middle of the Deep Creek Lake area and next to the Waterfront Greens community. You can book a single room for a getaway or take the whole inn for a wedding party, family reunion or group trip, and the farm's red barn has hosted weddings and events since 2002.
Rooms and Shared Spaces
The inn has 10 bedrooms, each with a king bed, a private bathroom, a gas fireplace with a barn-beam mantel and cable TV. Three rooms are on the first floor, including a wheelchair-accessible room with a roll-in shower; upstairs, five rooms look out over the pond and two over the back meadow. Guests share a great room with a gas fireplace, a full kitchen and a large dining table, which makes the inn work well when a whole group is cooking and eating together. Pets aren't allowed.
A Farm With a Long History
The property began in the early 1800s as the Harvey Farm, a dairy farm for more than a century, and later grew potatoes for Snyder's of Hanover. In 2002 the 10,000-square-foot barn was turned into a wedding and event venue, and the inn was created to house the wedding party. Along with the barn, the grounds have an open-air pavilion, open fields, a stocked fishing pond, a sledding hill and a fire area under a 300-year-old tree, and guests have access to a par-3 golf course.
Before You Go
Deep Creek Lake is about 0.7 miles away for swimming and fishing, and Deep Creek Lake State Park is a little over 2 miles off. Weekends from late spring through early fall are set aside for weddings and events, so ask about availability before planning a summer stay. In winter the inn recommends a four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle, because local roads and driveways can be steep.
