About
Rotary Park is a Town of Oakland park beside the Little Yough River at 202 Town Park Lane in downtown Oakland, with picnic tables, grills and a playground. It is a simple, central spot for a family picnic, and it puts you right at the start of the town's walking trail.
Picnics and Play
The park has picnic tables and grills for cooking out, plus a playground for the kids. Next door, at the town parking lot, is the Mountain Fresh Pavilion, a separate rentable pavilion with 34 picnic tables and electric outlets; the town parking lot has restrooms. If you are planning a bigger gathering, the pavilion is reserved online through the Town of Oakland.
Walks and History Nearby
The paved, lit Oakland Heritage Trail starts at the Town Parking Lot on South 1st Street at the Asa McCain Walking Bridge and runs about a mile past Washington Spring to Glades Park, so a picnic here can turn into an easy walk. Historical markers are close by as well.
Cared For by Rotary
The local Rotary Club maintains the park. In Garrett County the club also gives dictionaries to third graders, runs a Christmas tree project that delivers presents to children in need, and awards scholarships to Garrett County High School seniors.
Pack lunch, fire up a grill and let the kids play by the river.
