About

Sharon Elsey's Works of Art is the studio of Sharon Elsey, an Oakland painter whose acrylic scenes capture Garrett County's outdoors. If you want a painting or note card of the places and pastimes you love around Deep Creek Lake, her work is rooted right here.

A Self-Taught Local Painter

Sharon is a Garrett County native who grew up in the Annapolis and Glen Burnie area and moved back after her parents bought the Swallow Falls Inn near the state park entrance. She began painting around 2006, teaching herself through television programs, YouTube, art magazines and studying other painters, and later took a portrait class with Edna Bender. Her work is listed in the Maryland State Arts Council's artist directory under the Oakland Arts & Entertainment District.

What She Paints

She works mainly in acrylics. Her subjects include local scenery, paddlers, climbers, mountain bikers and snow sports, and she also paints pets and portraits. Water and snow are favorite subjects, and she has painted sailboats, sledding and ice-skating scenes and the swayback barn on Mayhew Inn Road. She also does flow art.

Where to See Her Work

Her paintings and note cards have been shown at the Garrett County Arts Council's Gallery Shop on South Second Street in downtown Oakland, where she has exhibited since 2008. Past displays have included the county Visitor Center, Garrett College Art Gallery and the Garrett County Courthouse gallery space. She has taught acrylic classes through Garrett College, offers canvas prints of her work, and hosts paint parties by appointment on the back deck of her home in the Swallow Falls area during the summer.
