About
St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Red House is an ELCA Lutheran congregation at 3301 Garrett Hwy, on the hill near the junction of Routes 219 and 50 in the Red House community south of Oakland. It calls itself "the Friendly Church on the Hill" and welcomes families, children and visitors to Sunday worship.
Worship and Learning
Sunday worship includes Holy Communion, and Sunday school classes for children and adults follow the service. Kids are welcome at every service. If you can't make it in person, services are livestreamed on the church's Facebook page, and recent recordings stay available there for about a month. The church also has a Tithely app with a prayer wall and online giving.
Ministries and Fellowship
The congregation's motto is "Serve God by Serving God's People." Its ministries include:
- a children's ministry for ages 4 to 11
- a youth ministry for teens
- a young adults group for those 18 and over
- volunteer opportunities through its Serve With Us page
Seasonal gatherings such as a Thanksgiving dinner social are held in the church's social room. The church is currently served by an interim pastor, Pastor Jack Palzer, while it searches for a called pastor. St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery is recorded under the church's name.
