St. Peter at the Lake Center is the McHenry worship site of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Parish, at 1140 Mosser Rd near Deep Creek Lake. It gives lake residents and visitors a Catholic Mass close to the water, while the parish's main church and office stay in downtown Oakland.
One Parish, Two Locations
St. Peter the Apostle describes itself as "one parish, two locations" in Garrett County, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore lists the Lake Center in a pastorate with the Oakland church on South Fourth Street. Both sites share one pastor, one parish office and phone, and one website, so questions about sacraments, faith formation or Mass intentions all go through the Oakland office. Mail and packages are not accepted at the Lake Center, so send them to Oakland.
What to Expect
The Lake Center hosts a weekend vigil Mass year-round, and in summer, from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend, an extra Sunday Mass is added for the lake crowd. Reconciliation is offered after the weekend Mass here, and the parish holds a seasonal Holy Hour at the Lake Center before moving it to Oakland for the colder months. Low-gluten hosts are available, and there is free on-site parking.
Looking Ahead to 175 Years
The parish was established in 1852 and is preparing for its 175th anniversary in 2027. Proceeds from commemorative bricks sold for the Oakland church sidewalk will fund a new pavilion here at St. Peter at the Lake.
