About
St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church is the main church of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Parish, at 208 S 4th St in downtown Oakland. The church, parish hall, chapel and parish office all share the site, making it the place to go for Mass, sacraments and parish business in Garrett County's Catholic community.
One Parish, Two Locations
Founded in 1852, the parish today serves Garrett County from two sites: this historic church in Oakland and St. Peter at the Lake Center on Mosser Road in McHenry, near Deep Creek Lake. The Archdiocese of Baltimore lists them together in one pastorate under one pastor, and they share a website, office and phone. In 2027 the parish marks its 175th anniversary, with events planned in both Oakland and McHenry and commemorative bricks to line the sidewalk in front of the Oakland church.
Worship and Sacraments
- Sunday Mass year-round, plus weekday Mass or Communion Services
- Reconciliation after a midweek Mass or by appointment through the office
- Eucharistic Adoration following weekday services and on First Sundays
- Low-gluten hosts available
Parish Life
Mission teams cover faith formation for families, bereavement support, hospitality, liturgy and respect for life, and the parish has active Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary groups. A religious articles shop operates at the Oakland site, and there is free on-site parking.
Call the parish office if you'd like to arrange a sacrament or register as a parishioner.
