About
StageWEST Arts Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based at 687 Mosser Rd in McHenry that presents performing arts and runs arts-education programs for the Garrett County community. It brings visiting artists to the area for public performances ranging from symphonies to jazz ensembles, organised as an annual season.
From Arts Festival to Arts Collective
The organisation began in December 1986 as the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival, when local residents gathered around a proposal from Garrett County resident Kathryn Sincell and violinist Erick Friedman to bring a music festival to the county and revive the spirit of the Mountain Chautauqua. A core group of 22 citizens formed from that meeting. In 2024 a special projects grant from the Maryland State Arts Council helped the board realign the mission, and the group took the name StageWEST Arts Collective.
Seasons, Education and Getting Involved
StageWEST offers season subscriptions, memberships and gift certificates, and its 2027 season is being planned after the 2026 season wrapped up. Its Arts in Education programs give local students workshops, classes and outreach, along with chances to meet artists and see live shows. Volunteers, donors and sponsors support the productions, and the organisation is partially supported by grants from the Garrett County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council. StageWEST asks patrons who need accessibility accommodations to contact its office 30 days before a performance.
