About
Swanton Cemetery is the community burial ground for the village of Swanton in Garrett County, one of the small communities around Deep Creek Lake. It is listed in the U.S. Geological Survey's place-names index and recorded on Find a Grave and BillionGraves, so it is a good starting point if you are researching Swanton-area families. Find a Grave lists about 93 memorials here, most of them photographed by volunteers.
Where It Sits
Federal mapping records the cemetery at about 2,400 feet above sea level, on the Kitzmiller topographic map. Swanton itself is a small unincorporated community that is home to Deep Creek Lake State Park, and its burial ground sits among several other old cemeteries nearby, including North Glade Cemetery about two miles to the north.
