The Barn on Lake Shore is a privately owned 2-bedroom, 1.5-bath rental at 562 Lake Shore Dr, Oakland, set on three wooded acres near Deep Creek Lake, that sleeps 8. It isn't lakefront, but it comes with its own private dock across the road, making it a good fit for a couple of families or a small group who want a quiet base in the woods and a boat on the water.
Inside the House
The living space is on the second floor of the barn, about 1,200 square feet, reached by 17 interior steps with a stair lift and handrails. Each bedroom has a queen and a twin bed, and a queen Murphy bed in the great room can stay down without blocking the room. The great room has a wood stove with wood provided, the kitchen table seats eight, and a long table beside the stove stretches seating to 12. The owners label every kitchen door and shelf so you can find things quickly. There's central air, propane heat and a generator for power outages; cell service is usually unavailable on the property, but the house has Wi-Fi and a phone with free local and long-distance calling.
Outdoor Spaces and Lake Access
- A covered, screened porch off the great room for watching wildlife
- A 12-by-20 gazebo in the woods with a table, chairs and a hammock, next to a fire pit (firewood provided)
- A grill, with cooking tools kept in the garage
To reach the lake, you walk through the property, cross the road and follow a deeded 15-foot right of way between two lakeside houses to a private dock with room for up to three boats. A 15-foot canoe and life jackets are kept by the landing. The dock is in the water from May 1 to October 1.
Good to Know
Dogs are welcome (up to two without prior permission), the house is non-smoking, and guests bring their own linens and towels or arrange linen delivery. The upstairs has large, low windows, so young children need close supervision.
