About
The Painted Cupboard is a primitive country gift and home decor shop at 214 East Alder Street in downtown Oakland. It has been open since May 2005 and is a good stop for farmhouse-style decor, American-made goods and handmade furniture for a cabin or year-round home.
What You'll Find
The selection of one-of-a-kind country wares changes often, so there's usually something new on the shelves. Typical finds include:
- Linens, prints, rugs and handmade baskets
- Candles, soaps and potpourri
- Hand-painted farmhouse-style signs and lighted canvas prints
- Rustic accents such as decorative skis, birdhouses and lanterns
- Other American-made home goods
Holiday Decor and Handmade Furniture
Around the holidays the shop fills with decorated trees, berry wreaths, felted wool ornaments in many sizes and styles, and snowmen made from all sorts of materials. Year-round, it also sells primitive country furniture made by hand for the shop, and custom furniture orders are taken, which is useful if you need a piece built to fit a particular wall or corner.
Wander in while you're exploring downtown Oakland and see what's new on the shelves.
