Parks and Places to Know
The town looks after several public spaces:
- Town Park West at the western end of Wood Street, with a large pavilion, restrooms and play equipment
- Town Park East at the southern end of South Street, with a playground, a little league field, a quarter-mile walking trail, a tennis court, a pickleball court and horseshoe pits
- Accident Community Pond at Cemetery Road and North South Street, stocked by the State of Maryland
- Veteran's Park at South Main Street and Main Street Extended
- The Drane House, a log house listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which the town bought in 1987–1988 and restored
How Accident Got Its Name
The town's own history says that around 1751 George Deakins sent two survey teams out separately, and both laid out a tract starting at the same tall oak tree. He chose that land and patented it as "The Accident Tract." Accident was incorporated in 1916.
Town events include the Fourth of July Homecoming and a town-wide yard sale in July.
