About
The Town of Kitzmiller is the municipal government for Kitzmiller, a small town on the North Branch of the Potomac River in Garrett County. Kitzmiller Town Hall is at 104 West Center Street, Kitzmiller, MD 21538, where the mayor and town council serve residents and the office takes calls about town business.
Town Government
Kitzmiller elects a mayor and town council to two-year terms, with an election held each April. The town's website posts newsletters, meeting minutes and the town charter, and links to the Kitzmiller water system run by Garrett County.
Places to Visit and Rent
The town's site points visitors to the Kitzmiller Coal Heritage Museum, where you can schedule a visit with the curator, and the Kitzmiller Botanical Garden created by Dr. Melvin Brown. The Kitzmiller River Walk runs along the top of the town's flood wall beside the Potomac, with river views and spots for fishing. For events, the town offers the former Kitzmiller School Building, the Town Park Pavilion and its Community Building as rental spaces.
A Town Named for a Mill Owner
The town's history page says Ebenezer Kitzmiller built a woolen mill here in 1853. When a post office was set up in 1877, residents named the town after him. The Town of Kitzmillersville was established in 1906, and the name was later shortened to Kitzmiller. The town also lists a Ruth Enlow Library branch, Head Start and senior meals in town.
