A United Brethren Congregation
The Church of the United Brethren in Christ is an evangelical Protestant denomination with deep roots in western Maryland and Pennsylvania. Underwood is one of two United Brethren churches in this corner of Garrett County; the other, Crellin United Brethren Church, is a separate congregation in the village of Crellin. A United Brethren chapel at Underwood appears in the Maryland State Archives' WPA-era survey of county churches, so worship in this community has a long history.
