A Town With Chautauqua Roots

Mountain Lake Park was founded in 1881 as a Chautauqua-style summer resort on the B&O Railroad, drawing speakers such as William Howard Taft and William Jennings Bryan. Its historic district, with more than 60 original turn-of-the-century buildings, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the old Ticket Office that once served the Bashford Amphitheater now houses the town museum.
