About
Wild Wind Cafe is a café and flower farm at 5472 Garrett Hwy (US 219) in Oakland, serving coffee, baked goods and salads with a you-pick flower field outside. It's a relaxed stop for a coffee with a friend, and a party space for birthdays, showers and family get-togethers.
Coffee, Tea and Flowers
The café menu centres on coffee, baked goods and salads. In the growing season the field out back holds more than 100 varieties of you-pick flowers, and you can gather a large bouquet, a smaller filler bouquet, a bucket or single stems, or simply take your coffee for a walk through the rows.
Tea parties are a specialty and need 48 hours' notice. Adults get finger sandwiches, a seasonal scone, petite desserts and a pot of tea, and there's a smaller version for kids with tea or juice. Sandwich choices include cucumber, chicken salad, a turkey cranberry pinwheel and grilled ham and cheese with fig jam, and the tea list runs from Earl Grey and spiced chai to lemon lavender, rose hibiscus and butterfly pea, which turns pink when you add lemon.
Parties, Classes and Celebrations
The space hosts birthdays, bridal and baby showers and family gatherings, with indoor seating for 36 plus covered porch tables and garden and field-view tables. For younger guests, the Whimsical Celebrations packages include a Princess Party (tiara crafts, dress-up, a photo corner, dancing and, in spring and summer, a flower to take home) and a Fashion Doll Party built around an 8-foot furnished dollhouse. Optional extras include a visiting princess and a miniature unicorn named Midnight. The café also runs classes such as scone baking and art, and seasonal events at the flower farm.
A Family Project
The owner credits her daughter, Lilly, as the inspiration for the café, and her husband put in hundreds of hours renovating the building and repairing equipment to get the café and farm open.
