Wisp Resort Mountain Adventures is the Mountain Park side of Wisp Resort at 296 Marsh Hill Road in McHenry, where families and groups book the coaster, ropes courses, mini golf and other non-ski activities on Wisp Mountain above Deep Creek Lake. It shares its address with the Wisp Resort listing, which covers skiing, lodging and golf; this page is about the activity park.
Activities in the Mountain Park
- Mountain Coaster: a gravity ride on the eastern side of Wisp Mountain, pulled uphill by a motorized pulley, with handbrakes so you control your own speed. It runs year-round.
- Canopy and ropes courses: the Chipmunk Challenge Course, the Spider Monkey Adventure Course and the guided Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour.
- Bear Paw Mini-Golf: 18 ADA-accessible holes with ponds, fountains and a bridge, just below the Sprung building.
- Scenic chairlift rides: spring through fall, with a short hike around the summit before riding back down.
- Disc golf: a 9-hole family course at the base and an 18-hole Mountain Course that starts with a chairlift ride to the top.
- Archery: guided sessions with instruction and equipment, for ages 8 and up.
- Gem mining at Marsh Mountain Mining Company, designed for ages 2 and up, plus the Squirrel Den playground.
Passes and Rules
You can buy single activities or the High-5 Pass, which lets you choose five from the coaster, chairlift, disc golf, gem mining, mini golf and the Chipmunk or Spider Monkey course. The High-5 Pass and archery can be bought online. Everyone needs a signed liability waiver, with a parent or guardian signing for minors, and closed-toe shoes are required with the High-5 Pass.
Coaster riders driving alone must be at least 54 inches tall; shorter riders and passengers ages 3 to 12 (at least 38 inches) ride with a companion 16 or older, and riders must be able to work the brake levers.
In Winter
When snow arrives, the Mountain Coaster keeps running beside Wisp's Bear Claw Snow Tubing Park, which opened in 2001 and uses conveyor carpets to carry tubers back uphill.
