Out on Friendsville Road, a few minutes off I-68, Harvest House is a little of everything: a bistro, a bar, a coffee shop, a microgreens farm and a gathering place. It's the kind of spot locals bring friends to show off.
Rooted in a Farm
Harvest House started with a small family farm and a few trays of microgreens. Today it grows more than 15 varieties in soil and harvests them by hand (broccoli, kale, red cabbage, pea shoots, micro herbs and edible flowers), and they show up all over the menu. An on-site grow room lets you see where some of your food begins, and the farm also sells microgreens wholesale.
The owners spent years living and working in Tanzania with the Peace Corps, where they learned to cook with what was on hand and saw how much a shared meal can do for a community. That idea runs through the place.
What's on the Menu
Brunch brings breakfast sandwiches on plain or everything bagels, bagel and lox with dill microgreens, avocado toast with chili crunch, and French toast with fresh berries. Dinner is built for sharing: a butter board with three house-made whipped butters, black bean and chickpea hummus, an all-microgreens "super salad," grain bowls and pressed sandwiches. Gluten-free and vegan options are marked, and there's a kids' menu.
The coffee bar runs from drip and lattes to a chaga matcha, and the bar mixes cocktails alongside local beer.
